The Configuration of Sound

2026

Editorial Design, Information Design

The configuration of sound explores the word as sonic data. The written word, in the book, is substituted by geometric variations where every vowel is denotes a sound. The geomteric shapes are plotted along each sentence revealing the underlying structure of words. The shapes altogether culminate in a sonic configuration. This iterative process across forty peices of prose tests whether the words are lyrical or plain or whether any rhythm prevails. The book, overall, celebrates the spoken beauty of words.

Personally fascinated by patterns underlying systems, I was intrigued by the patterns in poetry. An homage to sound patterns, the books condones the philosopher, Cristoph Cox’s ideology of relocating sound at par with vision in the sensorial hierarchy. The design places words and their sonic substitutions in parallel light.
